One of the hardest things to do is to review a book that you want to love because a friend wrote it. It makes it’d doubly hard in case you don’t care for it, or worst, you just don’t get it! Well, I am extremely happy to report that won’t be necessary in the case of Lori Lenoir-White’s book, “Perspectives.” The more I turned the pages, the more it felt like a cathartic reference book. Because the subject matter is about things that have happened to all of us, it’s all about her interactions with a thing called ‘life.’ She truly bares her soul while concurrently sharing her spiritual belief system.In a nut shell, 'Perspectives' is about the ebbs and flows of living. Life isn’t always perfect and it seldom goes along as planned. In the book, Lori Lenoir-White makes you feel as if you’re looking over her shoulder and experiencing her angst, her joys, her perceived imperfections, and her personal journey to enlightenment as one of life’s most ardent inquisitors.
You become enthralled with this book within the first 20 pages. When I read ‘Faith and Support,’ ‘Boundaries,’ and ‘Breathe,’ I automatically knew I would finish the book. I read several titles a month so I'm pretty definite about what I like, and “Perspectives” needs to be on your permanent reading list. Lori is blessed with the gift of poetic imagination and she also displays a real ethereal beauty in her words that only comes from a great writer. No matter how many times you pick up this book you will still experience fresh emotional insights into these small diaries of life!
I highly recommend that you do not hesitate to add this book to your personal collection "TODAY!!!"

Your writings have put some of my life's issues in perspective, thank you for that. I love you for reminding me that 'Growth comes in the midst of the storms and droughts'. I admire you more than you will ever know.

There is only one thing that I didn't like about this book The weight and heft of the cover pages is bit light given the size of the book. I would love this if it were a bit more firm. This is not an issue at all for the though.
Now for the review part
Perspectives provides a view on different aspects of life that really resonates with me. I appreciate the openness of the writing, and the raw emotion that is conveyed. The voice comes through as empowered and true. The the pictures used, or rather the lack of color in them, remind me that there is so much more to the writing hidden in the stories behind them that simply can't be expressed on a page without actually walking in the authors shoes.
I have found myself re-reading some of the chapters over and over again, and enjoy finding new elements in them that I may have missed before. I'm glad to have stumbled across this gem.
I'm a gentle soul by nature so, at times, the direct, imperative and even controversial voice with which LeNoir-White sometimes speaks through this work is mildly unsettling to me. It's likely that I feel this way because I tend to gloss over the more hurtful things in life in favor of the "bright side" approach. Her writing reminds me that it is okay to feel and express a range of emotions as a form of creative therapy. I also do not like to be told what to do, and there are times that I interpreted her reflections as instruction. In this, I amuse myself because I teach writing courses. So the teacher has become the student. After I get over myself, I find the joy of which she writes. I breathe the breaths she encourages me to take, and I substantiate my already considerable courage with her own. Then there are times when I just flip through, look at the photographs and marvel at the photographic eye she has to capture such exquisite themes in nature. I sometimes wish I could see some of those photographs in color, but I understand, at least in part, why she chose to use black and white images. This life is full of contrasts--- often more stark than I would care to admit. Yet, in these contrasts we can fully appreciate life and beauty. I imagine that as I read Perspectives more often and in different settings, I'll find more treasures for myself and perhaps for others, because it is a book worth sharing.
I've never met Lori except through her " Write Out Loud" page on Facebook. I was anxious to read her book as her writing had inspired me a great deal just from that Facebook page. I enjoyed learning more about her through her unique perspective of life thus far. I found her book to be more contemplative than I thought it would be. I would catch myself sitting and thinking about my own perspective as I read each chapter. I wasn't expecting that at all. I look forward to reading more from her. I felt it a privilege to share in her honesty, in her heartfelt journey through this world and in her triumph through her written words.

I loved this book! Being a person who is in touch with my surroundings, things like nature and people and their persona, I was able to really relate to things
Lori captures. The nuances or essences of things that are and once were.
I found myself back in my Indianapolis childhood days as well as my days visiting Paducah, Kentucky as well as Savannah, TN with her nature descriptions. I felt the connections with people and attitudes on how we're sometimes thought of, about and how we think of those in our lives.
This book took me there, to those good times and bad. It made me reflect on many many things from days gone by that I wish I could relive or capture again.
The pictures and the way Lori expressed, I found myself being right where she wanted me.
Lifestyles today know nothing about this sort of living or passion of life's expression.
